M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering

The M.Tech programme in Computer Science and Engineering imparts a breadth of advanced knowledge in various areas of computer science. The programme is designed such that a student can complete it based on advanced coursework with reasearch exposure. However, the students are given the elective options to study their subjects of interest.

This is a four semester regular degree programme with two semesters devoted to minor and major thesis research.The first semester of the M.Tech. programme is aimed at providing the necessary breadth in Computer Science and at integrating the students with the instructional philosophy. The subsequent semesters aim at providing avenues for specializing in one or more streams within computer science.

The objective of this discipline is to train the manpower required to meet the industry needs of the country, to pursue research in specialized areas, and to meet the growing needs of engineering colleges for trained faculty in Computer Science and Engineering. The programme includes courses covering the core of Computer Science and Engineering discipline and several electives in areas of Intelligent Systems and Knowledge Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, Theoretical Computer Science, Networks and Distributed Systems and Hardware Systems.

Q. What are the Advantages of getting an M.Tech Degree after B.Tech in Computer Science?

A. These days master degrees matters a lot, after getting B.Tech degree you hardly get a executive jobs but if you have master degree then you get high profile jobs.
After M.Tech you can do PHd with specified subject or you can research as you wish. That is you can be the scientist and make new development in the field of computers and IT.

Master of Computer Applications (MCA)

Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a full time professional Master's Degree in computer science with duration of three years (six semesters). Of the six semesters, one semester is dedicated to an industrial training & software development. The programme is planned to have 5 theory subjects plus two laboratories each semester. The curriculum has a strong core covering information technology, business management and mathematics.

The course has been designed to meet the growing demand of qualified professionals in the field of Information Technology. It is a postgraduate course that can be taken up after obtaining a Bachelor's Degree. The MCA programme is inclined more toward Application Development and thus has more emphasis on latest programming languages and tools to develop better and faster applications.

The MCA programme focuses on providing a sound theoretical background as well as good practical exposure to students in the relevant areas. It is intended to provide a modern, industry-oriented education in applied computer science. As the IT and the software industry are dynamic and fast growing, all the programmes are designed keeping in view the requirements of industry. Students are trained in the fields of Systems Designing, Application Software Development, Enterprise Resource Planning, Computer Networks, System Administration, Web Designing & Development, Database Administration, Parallel & Vector Processing, Data Mining & Warehousing etc.

Admission Criteria

The students admitting in MCA must have a B.C.A./B.Sc. degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or at graduation level.

Lateral Entry: Candidates with the following qualifications are directly admitted to the third semester (Second Year) of the six semester M.C.A programme:

  • a) Any undergraduate science or applied science degree of three years duration in Computer Applications or Computer Science or Information Technology or other computer related areas.
  • b) Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application after completing 3 year degree programme.

Q. How much do I expect to earn after MCA?

A. Sky is the limit. But as it is technical field, it depends more on your technical expertise. If you do your MCA , you may expect to get any where between 6 Lacs to 20 Lacs per annum in India and much more abroad. A large number of MCAs are absorbed in good MNCs abroad after a few years of experience.

Q. Is the knowledge of computers essential before joining the course?

A. Computer languages, knowledge of hardware etc., are often asked in the entrance examinations. But, you do not need to have high level technical knowledge of computer science to clear an MCA Entrance Examination.

Q. Do I need to have a strong command over English to clear these tests?

A. Since the MCA Course is entirely in English and the jobs you would be seeking, would involve a lot of exposure to English due to international projects , it is advisable to have some command over English.

Q. What are the average salaries offered?

A. Salary may vary from Rs 6,00,000 to Rs 20,00,000 per annum. If one gets into a foreign company or goes abroad, the starting salary will be around $50,000 -$1,00,000 per annum. As one gains experience, the salary may get higher.

Q. What kind of job security does an MCA degree give?

A. Since the MCA is a Masters degree, which has a very broad theoretical base in Computer Science; it gives you tremendous flexibility and adaptability to work with different Computer Technologies. If you have an MCA you are highly Employable within the IT industry.

Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Civil Engineering programme is designed to have specialization options in Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Transportation Engineering. The following Five streams are offered in M.Tech. Civil Engineering Discipline:

Structural Engineering

This stream deals with the following major areas: advanced structural mechanics, finite element analysis, structural dynamics, structural stability, structural reliability, structural optimization, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, steel structures, design for wind and earthquake, plates and shells, bridges, tall buildings, towers, computer applications in structural engineering, fracture mechanics, masonry structures, power plant structures, composite structures.

Environmental Engineering

This stream is designed to meet the needs of both government departments/public sector and industry, with emphasis on various aspects like protected water supply and sanitation for public health, pollution control and sustainable development.

Geotechnical Engineering

This stream provides specialized knowledge in various geotechnical engineering topics such as foundation engineering, ground improvement techniques, design of retaining walls, underground excavations, etc.

Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering

This stream provides a strong conceptual background in areas such as irrigation, hydrology, hydropower, water supply, flood control, through a wide range of courses including applied fluid mechanics, free surface flows, surface water, hydrology, water resources planning and management.

Transportation Engineering

This stream covers a wide range of topics which includes urban transportation systems planning, transportation economics, traffic engineering and management, traffic flow theory, computer aided modeling of traffic and transportation systems, Intelligent transportation systems, travel demand modeling,

M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering
