International Conference on
‘Sustainable Energy for the Future’
April 11-12, 2014
Worldwide urban population is on the rise putting pressure on the basic energy needs. The administrators of leading cities have been trying to improve the energy efficiency for sustainability, yet the demand continues to grow. Providing an acceptable of life quality of life is becoming a major challenge, not to mention about clean water, food sanitation and greenhouse gases etc.
The focus has also shifted towards a sustainable future and communities are undertaking energy efficiency measures for the mitigation of climate change and energy security along with finding the practicality of using non-conventional energy resources.
International initiatives on energy efficiency exist focused on assisting towns and cities with their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction and sustainability goals. Some of these initiatives include the ICLEI3 ‘Cities for Climate Change protection campaign’, the European Commission’s Covenant of Mayors, Architecture 20305, the Clinton Foundation’s C-40 Climate Change Initiative, The European Green Capital competition, the Low Carbon Communities of the Americas, that includes encouraging light coloured roofs and pavements to reflect back sunlight and the Carbon Neutral Network established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to encourage countries, cities and businesses to reduce their GHG emissions and set varying targets with the long term aim to become carbon neutral (Cities, Towns & Renewable Energy - Yes In My Front Yard, 2009).
International initiatives on renewable include the CONCERTO10 initiative that was launched by the European Commission to support local communities develop projects based on demonstrating the environmental, economic and social benefits of integrating energy efficiency techniques together with renewable energy sources through a sustainable energy-management system operated on a community level. Improvements in technology have led to the development and deployment of renewable.
The purpose of this conference would be to highlight the global initiatives undertaken in these areas and will focus on how India can take up such measure for a sustainable future. The conference will also discuss successful cases from the industry in this area through the panel discussions.
