Department of Computer Science and Engineering

BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications)

Department Vision

The Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) is typically three-year programs that span six semesters. It is designed to bridge the gap between the studies of computers and its applications. It aims to shape computer professionals with the right moral and ethical values and can prepare students to face the challenges and opportunities in the IT industry of India by building strong foundations.
The syllabus focuses on the core fundamentals of computer science, but generally undergoes revision according to the industry requirement with the aim of increasing employment opportunities for students. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established in Academic year (2013-2014) to meet the demand for well-qualified computer professionals. M.Tech. in Computer Science & Engineering

The M.Tech programme in Computer Science and Engineering imparts a breadth of advanced knowledge in various areas of computer science. The programme is designed such that a student can complete it based on advanced coursework with reasearch exposure. However, the students are given the elective options to study their subjects of interest.

This is a four semester regular degree programme with two semesters devoted to minor and major thesis research.The first semester of the M.Tech. programme is aimed at providing the necessary breadth in Computer Science and at integrating the students with the instructional philosophy. The subsequent semesters aim at providing avenues for specializing in one or more streams within computer science.

The objective of this discipline is to train the manpower required to meet the industry needs of the country, to pursue research in specialized areas, and to meet the growing needs of engineering colleges for trained faculty in Computer Science and Engineering. The programme includes courses covering the core of Computer Science and Engineering discipline and several electives in areas of Intelligent Systems and Knowledge Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, Theoretical Computer Science, Networks and Distributed Systems and Hardware Systems.

Master of Computer Applications (MCA)

Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a full time professional Master's Degree in computer science with duration of three years (six semesters). Of the six semesters, one semester is dedicated to an industrial training & software development. The programme is planned to have 5 theory subjects plus two laboratories each semester. The curriculum has a strong core covering information technology, business management and mathematics.

The course has been designed to meet the growing demand of qualified professionals in the field of Information Technology. It is a postgraduate course that can be taken up after obtaining a Bachelor's Degree. The MCA programme is inclined more toward Application Development and thus has more emphasis on latest programming languages and tools to develop better and faster applications.

The MCA programme focuses on providing a sound theoretical background as well as good practical exposure to students in the relevant areas. It is intended to provide a modern, industry-oriented education in applied computer science. As the IT and the software industry are dynamic and fast growing, all the programmes are designed keeping in view the requirements of industry. A. Sky is the limit. But as it is technical field, it depends more on your technical expertise. If you do your MCA , you may expect to get any where between 6 Lacs to 20 Lacs per annum in India and much more abroad. A large number of MCAs are absorbed in good MNCs abroad after a few years of experience.

Q. Is the knowledge of computers essential before joining the course?

A. Computer languages, knowledge of hardware etc., are often asked in the entrance examinations. But, you do not need to have high level technical knowledge of computer science to clear an MCA Entrance Examination.

A. Since the MCA Course is entirely in English and the jobs you would be seeking, would involve a lot of exposure to English due to international projects , it is advisable to have some command over English.

The B.Tech. (Civil) programme delivers one degree: the Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering. However, the students are exposed to some differences in tracks. From 6th Semester, the program offers the students the opportunity for choosing a collection of five elective courses and five open elective courses from a proposed list of elective and open elective courses. The program curriculum currently counts 40 credits in elective and open elective courses that are listed in curriculum. These courses allow the students to achieve more depth in their preferred areas of concentration and some breadth in the various areas of civil engineering. The Graduation Projects and the summer internships will also provide opportunities for the students to focus on areas of specialization of their choice. However, in the degree awarded, only the civil engineering discipline is mentioned and no reference to track or specialization is included.

TASKS OF THE MENTOR

Mentors are supposed to provide educational counseling for students. Their primary responsibility is to evaluate the student’s plan of study to ensure it will satisfy the college and university requirements while it meets the student's specific needs. To be effective, the mentor must recognize that each student has different abilities, interests, aspirations, needs, experience and problems so that his approach in dealing with students can be different from one to another.

B.Tech. in Civil Engineering

Introduction

The group has an objective to provide a sound theoretical base which has been proven, challenged and practiced in our labs. This group will emphasize on the mathematics, physics and chemistry of electronics as well as network and circuit analysis. Looking at the high pace of development and new technology inventions in the field of ECE, this group will provide sound basics and show how they are applied in various fields. This group thus wishes to make the student majoring in ECE an engineer who is ready to understand new technologies as they develop. This group will provide a firm foundation in Communication technology ranging from mobile communication, data transmission and encryption, military communication techniques, and the overlap of devices and firmware in Human Computer Interfaces. The group has a rich variety of electives with application base in Instrumentation, Consumer, Telecom, Industrial Automotive Aerospace and Medicine. The student can take all his electives from a particular field or can take a mix. Experimentation setup and on the ground projects mark the labs and projects of this group. This group intends to foster Undergraduate Research and development for developing electronic gadgets and devices. Outcome: The group intends to shape an engineer majoring in ECE to be an applied electronics or communication technologist who can absorb and apply new technology as well as select the most appropriate technology.

Preparing innovative minds of the future

The Civil engineering group builds on the two year foundation by providing a menu of courses in Structures, Materials, Soil mechanics and Project Management. The core also covers relevant tools and software used in Civil engineering analysis and design. Special emphasis is placed on exposure to traditional, localized and global building materials. Basic exposure to geotechnical engineering, waste management and Hydrology is provided. The group has designed its electives in such a way as to allow you to either gain in depth knowledge in a particular area such as Bridges, Roads, high rise buildings, urbanization, water management, waste recycling landfills and sewage designs, New building materials, high speed construction techniques, disaster management, etc. or take a mix and have general idea on many of them. For the Applied pillar of the Glocal Philosophy the group has an extensive lab program which is a must for you to do including set ups and experimental analysis, soil engineering, making projects in groups and executing the same including structural design, choosing materials and testing the structure. The outcome: A student who is granted a major by this group will be a civil engineer who is either having in depth knowledge in an area or a well-balanced basic knowledge of at least three areas. The student would be aware of and would have used modern instrumentation and tools and have actually done field work and thus be ready to work on projects.

Q. I am unable to travel for my counselling. What do I do?

A. No problem, we understand there might be extenuating circumstances that prevent your travel. Your admission formalities can be done by an authorized representative carrying proper authorization documents, like your parents or even a friend. Q. Will I get hostel accommodation after getting the admission?

M.Tech. in Civil Engineering

Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Civil Engineering programme is designed to have specialization options in Structural Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Transportation Engineering. The M.Tech. in Civil Engineering programme will impart advanced knowledge in the field of specialization and will prepare the students for a bright career in industries, research and academic organizations within India and abroad.

Structural Engineering

This stream deals with the following major areas: advanced structural mechanics, finite element analysis, structural dynamics, structural stability, structural reliability, structural optimization, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete, steel structures, design for wind and earthquake, plates and shells, bridges, tall buildings, towers, computer applications in structural engineering, fracture mechanics, masonry structures, power plant structures, composite structures.

Environmental Engineering

This stream is designed to meet the needs of both government departments/public sector and industry, with emphasis on various aspects like protected water supply and sanitation for public health, pollution control and sustainable development.

Geotechnical Engineering

This stream provides specialized knowledge in various geotechnical engineering topics such as foundation engineering, ground improvement techniques, design of retaining walls, underground excavations, etc.

Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering

This stream provides a strong conceptual background in areas such as irrigation, hydrology, hydropower, water supply, flood control, through a wide range of courses including applied fluid mechanics, free surface flows, surface water, hydrology, water resources planning and management.

Transportation Engineering

This stream covers a wide range of topics which includes urban transportation systems planning, transportation economics, traffic engineering and management, traffic flow theory, computer aided modeling of traffic and transportation systems, Intelligent transportation systems, travel demand modeling,

The department teaches core subjects of ECE, offers a range of subjects as electives and facilitates industrial projects, all of which prepare the students for a career after their basic degree. Efforts are made to impart as much project based learning as is feasible. Towards this, investments are made in an on-going manner in having well equipped laboratories, software tools like LABVIEW, MATLAB, SIMULINK to name a few. This group will emphasize on the mathematics, physics and chemistry of electronics as well as network and circuit analysis. Looking at the high pace of development and new technology inventions in the field of ECE, this group will provide sound basics and show how they are applied in various fields. This group thus wishes to make the student majoring in ECE an engineer who is ready to understand new technologies as they develop. This group will provide a firm foundation in Communication technology ranging from mobile communication, data transmission and encryption, military communication techniques, and the overlap of devices and firmware in Human Computer Interfaces.

The group has a rich variety of electives with application base in Instrumentation, Consumer, Telecom, Industrial Automotive Aerospace and Medicine. The student can take all his electives from a particular field or can take a mix. Experimentation setup and on the ground projects mark the labs and projects of this group. This group intends to foster Undergraduate Research and development for developing electronic gadgets and devices. Outcome: The group intends to shape an engineer majoring in ECE to be an applied electronics or communication technologist who can absorb and apply new technology as well as select the most appropriate technology.

This group aims to be versatile in line with the discipline: there can be no physical objects without Mechanical Engineering! The group lays great emphasis on visualization, Continuum Mechanics and Rigid Mechanics, Machines and product realization. The core is built around these with a liberal dose of mathematics and modeling and simulation software. The core will also deal with manufacturing techniques of metals as well as plastics, Materials and measurements on materials.

The elective base is very wide to be proved the UG student with enough opportunity to experience the flavor of various Branches of Mechanical Engineering: thus there are elective sets in Automation and robotics, Automotive, Refrigeration and Airconditioning, Material analysis and selection, Manufacturing and costing etc. The practical side is heavily emphasized: lab experiments are designed in such a way as to pose a real life challenge to the students. In addition students are expected to visualize, design and manufacture a product of some utility which has an element of novelty or a new outlook or design factor or cost optimization in it.

Outcome: The ME major from this group will be an engineer who knows how to operate machines, design simple parts and products, select materials, optimize costs and be able to integrate other discipline into his products.

    M.Tech. in Petroleum Engineering

    Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Petroleum Engineering programme is designed to have an in depth knowledge of Oil and Gas sector. M.Tech. in Petroleum Engineering programme will impart advanced knowledge in the field of in Upstream, Midstream & Downstream sectors.

    This will further help students in preparing for a bright career in industries, research and academic organizations within India and abroad.

    This is a four semester regular degree programme with two semesters devoted to minor and major thesis research and major course work. The final two semester of the M.Tech. programme are aimed majorly on the research methodology and M.Tech. dissertation.

    Duration: 2 years divided into 4 semesters Eligibility
    • Citizenship: Indian nationals can apply under the General Category. Foreign nationals or Non Resident Indians or Indian nationals supported by NRI relatives can apply under the Foreign/NRI Category.
